Become the partner, husband, father, friend, leader you want to be

The NWTA is a life-changing journey of initiation and self-examination. It’s a spiritual Rite of Passage that recreates the mythical Hero’s Journey for modern men. The NWTA has helped tens of thousands of individuals improve their lives by exploring and enhancing their connection to healthy, mature masculinity. This weekend-long learning experience will challenge, support and empower you to become more authentic, grounded and free as a man.

Men from all walks of life come to do the NWTA. If you are a male and 18+ you are welcome. You can be single, married, partnered, a father, a son and/or a brother. You can be from any occupation such as tradies, professionals, office workers, business owners, labourers, artists or soldiers. We accept all men regardless of sexual orientation, religious and cultural beliefs, race and nationality, rich or poor.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?

A life-changing weekend

Over 48 hours you’ll have the opportunity to take a good, hard look at the life you’ve created. What’s working, what’s not, and what do you want to change? You’ll be challenged – and supported – to overcome your limitations. You’ll have the opportunity to face and work through some of the deep fears and wounds you carry – the things that keep your life from working the way you want.

You’ll form a deep connection with yourself, you’ll build deep connections with other individuals, and you’ll experience the love and support of a community of men working to better themselves and the world. You’ll come away with a clear sense of what you need to create lasting change. And you’ll know what steps you need to take to become more empowered and centred in your relationships to family, work and your community.

The ‘Adventure’

WHAT CAN WE TELL YOU

The NWTA is a weekend, live-in camp that runs from around 6 pm, Friday to 3 pm, Sunday. There are activities and light-hearted challenges mixed into the schedule to make it both challenging and fun. We find that the more individuals open up to the processes, the more they get from the weekend. So, be prepared to step up emotionally, mentally and spiritually and physically.

Participants usually number around 30 with as many (or more) support staff to keep things safe and supported. The facilitators on-site are diverse – men just like you who have previously completed the training and have experience in guiding you on your journey.

EMBRACING THE UNKNOWN

Like any Rite of Passage, we don’t disclose the details of our processes in advance, so you’ll need to be willing to accept that before you commit. That said, emotional, mental, physical and spiritual safety is our biggest priority. We recommend talking to someone before registering. To get a feel for the intention of the weekend, visit a Men’s Circle, call an NWTA organiser or speak with someone who has already done a Training. You can also read our FAQs.

FAQS

What is it?

The Adventure is a modern male Rites of Passage/Initiation and self-examination. We believe that this is crucial to the development of a healthy and mature male self, no matter how old a man is. It is the “hero’s journey” of classical literature and myth that has nearly disappeared in modern culture. We ask men to stop living vicariously through movies, television, addictions and distractions and step up into their own adventure – in real time and surrounded by other men.

Where is it?

We hold our current NWTA trainings on Springbrook Mountain at a place called Koonjewarre. The site is operated by the Australian Rainforest Conservation Society. Koonjewarre (pronounced koon-gee-warr-ee), a term used by the Kombumerri clan of the indigenous Yugambeh people translates to “Meeting place on high ground…” perfectly describing this unique accommodation centre in the high country of Springbrook where the “Clouds touch the Earth”!

Springbrook is at the back of the Gold Coast in the hinterland, 45 mins from the Gold Coast Airport and around two hours from Brisbane and is easily accessible in all weather.

What to expect?

From arrival on Friday to departure on Sunday, you will not have access to cars, computers or phones, except for emergencies. The training is designed to help you step out of your ‘ordinary’ life into an ‘extra-ordinary’ space, from where you will be able to see yourself and your life with greater clarity. You are asked to organise your life so you can be fully engaged in the training for its entire duration, without any outside distractions. This dedicated focus is part of what makes the training so powerful.

There are some outside activities so you should bring clothing that will keep you dry and warm. You should bring a sleeping bag that would keep you warm if you were camping at that time of year. You should bring one pair of shoes for outside use, one for indoor use. Pack light. You are going to be far too busy to even read a newspaper.

This training does not involve any assault courses or military-style training. Macho or violent behaviour will not be tolerated. There will be no alcohol, caffeine or smoking (patches available) for the entire weekend. For part of the course, the choice of food is limited to keep men alert. Any man with a medical condition will be closely monitored by a medic who is present for the entire training.

What happens if pay and change your mind?

There is a no questions asked money back guarantee.

I really need this training, but I am struggling financially, how can I attend?

MKP Queensland is a registered charity, and raises funds to assist and support any man who may be in hardship, to attend the NWTA

Who is the training run by?

The ManKind Project Queensland (a registered charity) assemble a highly-motivated and experienced staff to lead the training programs. Most staff members are volunteers and because all have experienced the initiation process themselves, they have a compelling sense of male initiation and authentic self-examination.

The Leader team on your training will have years of experience working with men in transformational settings. Certified Leaders in the ManKind Project have chosen to live a life of fierce and rigorous self-examination. They have been judged repeatedly by their peers, by the ManKind Project and certified to lead the New Warrior Training Adventure, a serious responsibility. Their commitment is to the safety and success of each man on a training weekend.

In the final analysis, however, you run your own training through the responses and decisions you make along your journey. The staff serves as your guides and mentors, but you choose your own level of commitment, and you decide how far you will explore the inner terrain of your life, to discover the treasures and obstacles buried within yourself. Any man may pass on any process he chooses to.

Who attends an NWTA?

During your training, you will stand shoulder to shoulder with an immensely rich mix of men, with occupations and ages as wide as masculinity itself. Whether they’re currently unemployed or corporate executives, all come to share a common understanding that their lives as men can be empowered with greater focus and direction and that this personal initiation into manhood is crucial to their full development as men.

Most men come because a small voice within them lets them know when it’s time. Some men come to heal conflicts with themselves or with others. Some men come to find role models for positive and mature masculinity. Some men come to explore their leadership abilities and expand their skills. Some men come to make a conscious transition from adolescent life to the life of a man. Some men come to find peace of mind in their transition to elder-hood. Often, men leave with a gift they could not have anticipated.

What happens after a training?

No weekend workshop is a fix-all. What we do expect to see is that perhaps a crack will be opened in the armour that you have hid behind for many years, maybe there is a shield that you can finally put down and let others in. The awakening that results from The Adventure can be very powerful and sometimes confronting and confusing.

PIT/LIFE-SKILLS Intensive Weekend

For the past 8-10 years, MKPQLD has conducted a Personal Integration Training (PIT) and Life-Skill Weekend that is unique to Queensland.

Integrating key MKP protocol awareness, while providing men deep understanding and insights into such areas as Archetypes, the Man-Switch and the Natural Order.

This Unique training is held usually held two to three weeks AFTER your NWTA training.

If a man cannot attend the PIT following his weekend, he is able to come back and do his PIT/Life-Skills Intensive Weekend after any training following his Adventure Weekend.

Men’s Circles

The awakening that results from the weekend adventure in most cases is very powerful. The ongoing growth in self-awareness and empowerment that can come from the weekend is ALWAYS enhanced by you participating in ongoing men’s circles called Integration Groups (I-Group). These I-Groups are the most compelling reason that many of us took the training to begin with.

After the Adventure, you will be invited to participate in one of these I-Groups close to where you live.

You will also be invited to join the Global Community of men that is the ManKind Project. Within MKP you can participate in advanced leadership and skill trainings, learn facilitation skills and participate as staff at any of our trainings in Australia and around the World.

You will also find within our ranks a wider community of men, women, families and organisations dedicated to making the world a better, safer, more alive place through missions of service.

My life is already working, why should I do an NWTA?

If it is, Great! Men who do NWTAs are not broken. Most are already succeeding in life. Men who are drawn to the training come from all socio-economic backgrounds and professions, from all walks of life. The question for you may be: “Do I want to achieve a Breakthrough – a quantum leap forward in my life?”

Will this training help me in my work/career?

While the NWTA is not a management training weekend, it does address vital issues of leadership, vision, accountability, and integrity. Because you will become more clear and focused, you’ll let go of emotional beliefs and feelings that no longer serve you. You’ll be enhanced as a man; better equipped to manage your life. Your capacity for taking risks and leading others will also be enhanced. People follow individuals who know what they are about and where they are going.

What’s the value of the training for my family life?

You will be far more in touch with your own feelings and more able to experience and express a full range of emotions. Your capacity to connect and relate to others will be enhanced. Your boundaries will be better defined and your self-image heightened. You will be better equipped to open your heart, connect, relate to family members, and allow yourself the gifts of vulnerability and trust.

Will the training change my relationships with my wife, girlfriend and other women in my life?

Probably. The impact is most often very positive.  Most women want men in their lives who are strong, yet have the capacity to be compassionate and gentle. The training fosters both strength and gentleness. You’ll get the opportunity to look at your reliance on women throughout your life and the positives and negatives of how you relate to women. Overall, you are likely to be more respectful, appreciative and clear about what you want from your relationships with the women in your life.

Does the training look at the role of the mother?

Men planning to attend the weekend often assume their big issues will be around their fathers and other male figures. You will get to look at how your parents shaped your development, and how your relationship (or lack of) with your mother while you were growing up, may be impacting your close relationships with women today.

I have never had a good relationship with men, why should I come to this training?

Good question. Many men have good reasons to be angry at the men who have broken agreements with them, not kept their word, and sold out. The hard truth is that “like cures like”.  This means that, if we have been hurt by a man, most often a man will be required as an agent of our own healing. Most of us have distorted images of men and masculinity – either demonising men as total tyrants and villains, or idealising them and putting them on unrealistic pedestals. You will see the common humanity in all men and begin to see the nature of manhood as it is. Glorious, and yet without illusion.

Why can’t I get a course syllabus or outline before the weekend?

If everything about the weekend were explained beforehand, the mystery and beauty of the experience would be gone. You would not experience “your journey” as it is happening. Explaining the concept of personal transformation is far different from the experience of actually being in the cauldron of transformation.

How about: “I’ll do it later . . . “?

A “no” to now is still a “no”. This may be a metaphor for putting your life on hold, rather than being in your life with high intention and purpose. As men, we are more often human doings than human beings. We do!  The NWTA experience invites a man to look at his standing as a human being. As men, we are adept at ignoring or putting off handling our emotional lives. We assign that job to mothers, wives and girlfriends and we are unhappy with how they handle the job we gave them. We encourage you to take charge of your own emotional life, to stand up for yourself, ask for what you need and to make your own choices as a man amongst men. Enroll now! Choose to be in the training. Once you feel the commitment within you, the money and time will be there.

I feel anxious, unsettled before attempting this. Why?

If so, this is a good sign. Initiation of men by men is a powerful and deep experience which has been lost in our culture. It involves risk and reward: the risk of truly facing yourself and the reward of having a safe container in which to achieve that. The intuitive, creative part of you may sense a deep need for initiation. Every man requires this for mature masculinity.

Can I get a shorter, cheaper version of this initiation?

No. Tens of thousands of men have validated the impact and usefulness of the process we use. There is no free lunch in life. To achieve the breakthroughs you want, the initiation experience requires the time and design we use. The cost of the NWTA is comparable to other transformational weekends. A better question may be: “Are you willing to invest time and money in yourself?” Money is a symbol of the value men place on things. Are you not worth it? We encourage you to look closely at your commitment to the being dimension of your life. If you are ready to invest in yourself now, we look forward to welcoming you to the next NWTA.

How do I know if this is right for me?

Only you can know. However, if you want to achieve breakthrough in your life, if you want to feel better about yourself as a man and feel more at ease around other men, if you want to be able to trust and connect with other men and relate with your own deepest self, you are probably ready to take on this training.

What are the age limitations of doing the Weekend?

You must be 18. The majority of men in our trainings are between 22 and 60. However, the training is valuable for younger and older men. Men in their seventies and eighties have found the training transformational.

How are your men able to trust one another when most men don’t trust other men?

We are a spiritual community of men.  The weekend experience places a man in ritual time and space where profound transformation happens.  This experience of standing in “the outer world” creates a common bond of identity and shared purpose.  Men of New Warrior are not naive about men.  We have a very deep awareness of what the shadow side of men is capable of, but we are discerning about opening our hearts with other men who have been through the same initiatory experience.  We have experience dealing with physical and sexual abuse, suicide and other severe traumas.  The framework and container of the weekend are strong enough to handle any life experience a man has ever had.  We welcome you.
